How to Spot Someone Who Just Moved to Lubbock
You don't need a huge welcome sign to know when somebody is new to town. There are plenty of signs.
First of all, their car is spotless. Not "pretty clean", I'm talking like showroom-shiny. It won't be long now.
Someone new to town will also underestimate Lubbock's weather and have major issues figuring out what to wear. It's a daily roulette here. Bonus points if they are still carrying a jacket around at noon, just SURE they will be able to wear it again the same day...yeah, no.
You’ll also catch them underestimating the wind. They step outside casually… and immediately get hit with a gust that rearranges their entire personality. Hair? Gone. Dignity? Questionable. Sunglasses? Somewhere in New Mexico.

Driving is another total giveaway. People here don't use turn signals. If you see someone using them, they are 100% an outsider. Give it time. Lubbock will humble them.
Then there’s food. They haven’t picked their “ride-or-die” taco spot yet, and they’re still asking where to go, like there’s a correct answer. There isn’t. Just strong opinions and louder arguments.
But the biggest tell? They still think the dust is temporary. Like it’s just a phase.
It’s not.
Give them a few weeks. They’ll be complaining about the wind, defending their favorite gas station, and saying things like “it’s not that bad” with a completely straight face. Just like the rest of us.
