Lubbock police have arrested two men for their alleged involvement in a shooting that took place on Monday (Nov. 18) during a drug deal.

According to police, the shooting occurred at 6:40 p.m. in the 2700 block of 45th Street. Four men were meeting at the location for what investigators allege was an illegal narcotics transaction.

Police say 34-year-old James Aragon tried to rob 24-year-old Joe Escamilla at gunpoint, but Escamilla retaliated and shot Aragon first.

When police arrived at the scene, Aragon was found lying in the street with a gunshot wound and taken to UMC with serious injuries.

Escamilla and another man, 29-year-old Bryan Ivey, were both arrested at the scene. Escamilla is charged with possessing a stolen firearm and Ivey for possession of a controlled substance. They have both been booked into the Lubbock County Jail. It remains unclear if Aragon will face any charges.
