If I told you I found the biggest pothole in Lubbock, you’d probably think you already know which one I’m talking about. That’s how common potholes have become across the city.

Originally, I was going to call this “My Pothole Adventure,” because whether it’s my hole or yours, the story is really about how frustrating—and sometimes even dangerous—these gaps in our roads can be.

The City of Lubbock recently worked on the sewer lines in front of the Lone Star Amphitheater I know this because there was a sign right there announcing the project. The job created a massive trench all along Weber Drive with a hole so deep it was downright unsettling to stand near. After a long stretch of work, the project finally wrapped up, and the area was paved over.

Lubbock has a pothole problem that affects drivers and businesses

Unfortunately, the paving job wasn’t flawless. About 90% of it looked great, but somehow the end of the project turned into a real mess. That spot has continued to deteriorate, and it’s on a road that gets far more use than some people might think. With Nightmare On 19th Street set to open, plus traffic from American Fibers and railroad crews, this isn’t just some forgotten back road.

Eventually, I decided to take action. The City of Lubbock actually has an online form for reporting potholes. It’s straightforward: fill out the form, submit it, and you’ll even get a confirmation message. That’s their way of letting you know they received your complaint.

Will anything happen quickly? I doubt it. If Lubbock’s pothole situation is severe enough to require an online reporting tool, then there’s a long line of people waiting for their complaints to be addressed. Still, if you’ve got a pothole tearing up your street, it’s worth reporting now so your request can at least get in the queue.
