Imagine having no choice but to wear this coat, 24/7:

Not only was Matt's coat full of hundreds of goat head stickers you can see here, it was so bad that they actually found beetles tangled up in his fur. Portions of his collar were embedded in the coat as well.

I previously reported on what South Plains SPCA called "the worst case of dog neglect we've ever encountered." If you would like to see Matt's before pictures, you can see them in the original article, but fair warning, they are hard to look at.

Happily, that's to vet sedation from Ark Hospital for Pets and expert grooming from Kayla’s Grooming Service, Matt is a whole new boy. He's super cute under all that mess.

The sore spots are not groomer nicks- they are where Matt's coat was so matted that it was bruising and rotting his skin. Poor guy. Lucky for Matt, he's now under the care of a foster Mom, but he has a long road ahead to get to 100%.

Matt will need a dental once his blood work indicates safe. He is also on eye drops several times a day as his eyes are extremely irritated.

Matt is estimated to be 6 years old. He will be available for adoption after his health issues are all ironed out. In addition to the dental and vision work, he is also anemic. But none of these issues are unsolvable with the right meds and the right care. I bet he will be totally healthy soon, now that he's not being horribly neglected.

Thank you so much to our South Plains SPCA for their hard work and dedication. Matt will need continued care for now, as will countless other cats and dogs. If you would like to donate towards these heroic efforts, you can do so easily through Venmo:
