Lubbock Ranks Top 5 In The Most Clueless Cooks In America
Lubbock is in the news again!
Lubbock Eats
Lubbock loves restaurants. The news (including here) is saturated with openings and closings, new food items, food wish-lists, and so much more. This begs the question, "Does Lubbock light to dine out because no one here can cook"? This recent survey certainly looks that way.
The Survey
This is another survey based on Google Searches and as long as you know that going in, it's hard to argue with the results. The survey actually looked at searches for what they call "basic cooking skills". It looks like the city of Lubbock has to turn to Google quite frequently to figure out how to do things (I'm not totally sold on the idea that Googling cooking facts is more "clueless" than someone just throwing something over some heat and taking their chances, but here we are). Lubbock actually ranked as #5 on the "Clueless Cooks" list.
Part Two
This was a two-part survey/study The first part was analyzing the Google searches, but the second part was an actual nationwide survey about cooking skills. Probably the biggest takeaway from the survey was that over half of Americans admit to not being very good in the kitchen.
School Yourself
I would say if you're smart enough to look for an answer online, then do it. I am still finding hacks here and there and no matter how hard I try, I can't remember things like how long it takes to boil an egg. There are also any number of books on "The Science Of Cooking" to speed up your learning.
An Ironic Footnote
This survey was forwarded to me by a Lubbock chef, who relocated to Cleveland. Coming in at #1 on the survey was...Cleveland (Thanks Pebbles!)
