A Horrifying Sight Has Already Hit Lubbock Store Shelve

I've explained before about the seasonal stocking of merchandise at Lubbock stores.

If you're new here though, many stores, especially the ones specializing in decorations, seem to jump right from 4th of July red, white, and blue products straight into Halloween products. It helps get sales started early, but it also makes sense because there really aren't any major holidays in between.

So what is the horrifying sighting I'm speaking of? Is it the glittery skeleton skulls, bags full of Halloween treats hitting the shelves, or some bloody and spooky home decor making an early appearance?

Nope. It's none of those.

Let's just say I was stunned to see that back-to-school bins and supplies have started popping up in Lubbock. This is the type of thing that will make a child's blood run cold. It seems like they were released for the summer just days ago, and now the kids return to school on August 12th. That's a mere five weeks from now!

Maybe I'm late to the game noticing the school supplies, but it was personally a bit of a shocker. It just seemed really soon. Then again, five weeks is nothing.

I guess I should have been tipped off when the ads for Texas Tech single-game tickets came out. That first game is coming up on September 5th, not long after LISD resumes. Holy moly, does time fly.

I can handle the Halloween stuff early. In fact, I kind of love seeing the spooky season creep in right after Independence Day. But back-to-school supplies? That is a whole different kind of terror.

The skeletons are cute. The fake blood is fun. The haunted decorations are welcome.

But a giant bin full of notebooks, pencils, folders, and glue sticks in early July?

That, my friends, is the real jump scare.
