It's a great debate: shaved ice or snow cones? For me, the answer depends on both my mood and the temperature (I prefer the old-school kind with bigger ice chunks when it's really hot outside- it doesn't melt as fast in the cone). However you like it- these icy sweet treats are a marvelous way to celebrate the summer here in Lubbock.

There Are So Many Local Lubbock Options!

I love this list because it's packed with so much Lubbock history. One local sno cone place, Gonzales Snow Cones, has been in our area since the 70s! Can you imagine keeping a family-run business open for over 50 years? That's truly remarkable.

Another shaved ice place on the list has experienced wild success and now boasts nearly 120 locations, and it all began in Lubbock in the early 1990s.

Happy's, which now has three area shaved ice spots, survived a terrible fire at its orginal location in 2019. The owners rebuilt it while maintaining grace and humor, and I was deeply impressed with that. It's been so wonderful to see them not only bounce back but thrive.

And we'd be remiss not to mention Tropical Icy, a Lubbock favorite that's been keeping prices as low and service high for many years here in Lubbock.
