Lubbock’s Hotel Reality And Why You Can’t Find a Room This Weekend
Lubbock, Texas is a tourist spot. Don't laugh. We have no Eifel tower or giant arch. What do do have is ball games, graduations, and shopping for people from smaller towns.
There is not a hotel or Air B&B in town to be found in Lubbock this weekend. There are three major events; Tech graduation, a high school and kids baseball tournament, and the NCAA Softball regional. That's a lot of folks visiting the Hub City all at once.

So what's the problem? It's pretty simple. There's a limited number of days each year when the town packs out. For instance, there's some of the above, and four Texas Tech home football games in 2026. Do you see where I'm going here?
It must be very hard to keep some hotels going, or even to attract new ones when there are so few days that the town packs out. Can you even imagine only having 5-7 days a year where you're really making money?
Of course I'm really overstating the problem. We do have other events that hit the town like the Arts Festival, some smaller conventions, and other sports events when our teams are "hot".

It sure seems that Lubbock has no shortage of hotels, until it has a shortage of hotels, and right now is one of those times. It's going to take some brave hoteliers to come into town and supplement what we have now, even though this weekend we desperately need it.
You can avoid some of these problems if you check your calendars and make reservations for your friends and family as soon as they start considering a visit. Even then, you may end up paying a premium price during some of these busier times.
