Why Lubbock’s United Supermarkets Feel Like Home To Everyone
There are three universal truths about living in Lubbock:
1. The wind will humble you.
2. Someone you know will always lock eyes with you at the store. (Whether you're in jammies or not...)
3. And everyone, I mean everyone, has a favorite United Supermarkets.
Not just “I like United.”
No, no. It’s specific.
“My United.”
And if you’ve ever said that out loud, congratulations, then you’re part of the most wholesome, low-stakes rivalry in town.
The funny part? Every single one of them is great. They're all just different.
The “Boujee But Insanely Friendly” United (Market Street on 98th and Quaker)
You walk in for milk and somehow leave with:
- A charcuterie situation
- A candle you didn’t need
- And a strong desire to get your life together
This United has vibes. The lighting is better. The produce looks like it’s been moisturized. But somehow it’s still full of the nicest people you’ve ever met.
You’ll see someone in workout clothes, someone in heels, and someone in pajamas—and no one bats an eye. We're all family. (Also, fyi, this is MY United. I'm pretty much on a first-name basis with all of the cashiers at this point. AND, the deli is fire, y'all.)
The “Efficient and Gets It Done” United (50th and Q)
This is your ride or die.
You know exactly where everything is. You can be in and out in 12 minutes flat if you lock in. The employees are fast, the layout makes sense, and it never lets you down.
Is it flashy? No.
Is it reliable? Absolutely.
This United doesn’t need attention; it earns respect. It's also our oldest location, and it's still thriving and showing no signs of slowing down.
The “Community Hub” United (Market Street on 19th and Quaker)
This one doubles as a social event.
You came in for one thing and ran into:
- Your old coworker
- Your neighbor
- Someone you haven’t seen since high school
And now you’re 30 minutes deep into catching up in the cereal aisle.
This United feels like Lubbock in grocery store form. Familiar, friendly, and just a little chaotic in the best way. It's also open 24-hours a day! It definitely comes in clutch when you need cough medicine at 2 a.m.
The “Secretly Elite” United (114th and Slide)
People sleep on this one sometimes because it's on the edge of town, and that’s exactly why it’s great.
It’s still relatively new, it's clean, it’s stocked, the parking isn’t a nightmare, and you can actually think while you shop. The people who go here know.
There’s a quiet confidence to this United. No hype needed. If you haven't been, check them out when you're in that neck of the woods.

The “I’m Already Over Here” United (Amigos 112 N University)
You don’t always plan to go to this one, but when you do, it comes through.
It’s the clutch stop. The “I forgot something, and I’m not driving across town” United.
And every time, you leave thinking,
“Honestly…this one’s solid. I need to come more often.”
PLUS, when you get there, you immediately get a massive craving for Agua Fresca, and they just happen to have a glorious supply of it, in basically every flavor you can think of. Don't forget to grab some Elote, too. Day made.
Amigos has some big-time perks that you won't find at other locations.
We've Got SO MANY!
I didn't even get through half of my list. We have SO many to choose from, and that's one of the best things about Lubbock. If your United is crowded, you're always just around the corner from another one that's just as good. They are really consistent, and Lubbock appreciates that.
The Real Truth About Lubbock's United Supermarkets
Here’s the thing: no matter which one you claim:
They’re all clean.
They’re all friendly.
They all somehow have exactly what you need (or at least a close enough substitute).
The only real difference is the experience.
And in Lubbock, that experience includes:
- Running into people you know
- Making small talk you didn’t plan on
- And leaving with at least one thing that wasn’t on your list
So Which One Is the Best?
Easy.
The one closest to you when you realize you forgot something.
And also…
the one you secretly judge everyone else for not choosing.
Because in Lubbock, you don’t just shop at United.
You represent your United.
