The South Plains Wildlife Rehab Center Needs Some Heroes
We got a chance to visit with the South Plains Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, and yeah…our minds are officially blown.
They popped up on our radar recently with a simple request for towels. Before we could even rally the troops, West Texas showed up big and handled it. That got us wondering—what else do they need? So we went straight to the source.
Sarah Hollers jumped on the RockShow with us to talk about what they do, what they need, and yeah…we had a little fun with it too.
80 Possums?! Yeah, You Read That Right
Right now, they are absolutely slammed. Intake numbers are way up, and when Sarah mentioned they had “a lot” of opossums, I figured maybe 15 or 20. Nope. Try 80 possums. Eight-zero. And that’s just one animal—they’re also caring for squirrels, owls, and all kinds of West Texas critters.
How You Can Actually Help
Like most nonprofits, cash is king. It lets them target exactly what they need and buy in bulk when it matters most.
But if you’re more of a “send something specific” kind of person, they’ve got an Amazon Wishlist ready to go. They’re also in serious need of dog crates and kennels—new or used.
And if now’s not your time to jump in, no problem—give them a follow and keep them on your radar. Opportunities to help pop up all the time.
Why It Matters
What these folks do is incredible. They rehab injured and orphaned animals and get them back where they belong—out in the wild. And for the ones that can’t go back, they make sure they’re cared for.
From opossums to owls and everything in between, they’re working overtime to take care of West Texas wildlife—and doing it with a ton of heart.
