Lubbock Welcomes Texas Tech Basketball Team Home After Historic Season [Video]
The Texas Tech Men’s Basketball team received a hero's welcome Tuesday in Lubbock.
Hundreds of fans gathered outside the United Supermarkets Arena to greet the National Title runner-up team as they returned home from the NCAA Tournament Championship in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Texas Tech men’s basketball made its first-ever trip to the Final Four this season, and followed it up with a first-time National Title bid. The closest the team has come before was in 2018, making the Elite Eight before being knocked out.
The Virginia Cavaliers beat the Red Raiders in a national title game for the ages. The matchup pitted two evenly-matched defensive powerhouses, but the final score, 85-77 in OT, was a far cry from the low-scoring snooze fest many sports writers were predicting.
Emotions were high for fans and players alike. The team brought Lubbock the closest its ever been to a national title for men’s basketball. The only time Texas Tech University won an NCAA National Championship was in 1993 with the Marsha Sharp-led Lady Raiders basketball.
Regardless, Lubbock is beyond proud of what the team accomplished this year. Here's to the future of Texas Tech Athletics.
