Metallica Gifts Texas High School A Massive $15000 For Musical Instruments

Metallica is a generous band.

Metallica's charitable initiative All Within My Hands, raises funds that are dispersed to several charity partners, including local food banks, critical local services, and the Metallica Scholars, "a major workforce education initiative that provides direct support to community colleges to enhance their career and technical education programs."

And now, they've gifted a massive $15000 grant to a Texas high school.

That isn't to say that the Boerne, Texas high school didn't earn it. They tied with a school in Malverne, New York for best performance by a medium-sized high school. Boerne, Texas is located between Kerrville and San Antonio.

The Boerne high school band submitted a medley of Metallica's songs including For Whom the Bell Tolls, Enter Sandman, Fade to Black, Seek and Destroy, and Master of Puppets. An excellent choice of songs, I'd say.  You can watch their entry video and beam with pride, too:

Daniel Person, Boerne's band director, said the funds would be used to purchase an entirely new bassline (basically, the drums) and several new instruments for incoming Freshmen and students with financial needs.

In total, Metallica offered a prize of $200,000 for winning marching bands. The best part? They are doing it again. You can find out more about this year's competition by heading to the For Whom The Bell Tolls! marching band competition website.

I would love to see my home state take home prizes every year- and I want to see more Metallica performed by area marching bands.
