On Monday, November 16th, Lubbock Police released more information concerning a deadly officer-involved shooting that happened the night before.

It's reported that the night of Sunday, November 15th, Lubbock Police Officers were called to the Aspen Village Apartments at 5416 50th Street for criminal mischief. Officers arrived at the scene at roughly 6:17 p.m. and knocked on the door of the apartment in question.

The occupant of the apartment, identified later as 50-year-old Christa Markwell, answered the door and in the middle of the exchange, the officers noted that Markwell had a weapon in her hand.

The police report then says that one of the officers instructed Markwell to drop the weapon. However, she didn't comply with the officer's instructions.

One of the officers then unholstered their firearm and shot, striking Markwell. Where she was struck exactly wasn't made clear. Markwell was transported by EMS to University Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead.

Both responding officers have been placed on administrative leave, as is Lubbock Police Department policy for all officer-involved shootings. As of the writing of this article, the officers' identities have not been released to the public.

This incident remains under investigation by the Lubbock Metro Special Crimes Unit.
