The Culture

If you're in Texas, then you know. If you're outside of the State then consider this fact; I personally know four barbeque experts, two of which have barbeque products in stores.  Seriously, the barbeque culture is so pervasive that being able to barbeque is a job for many, and at the least a necessary skill to be considered a Texan.

The Meats & Eats

Brisket is king in Texas. Again, people in Texas are rolling thier eyes at the basicness of that answer, but in many parts of the country "barbeque" means ribs. Of course chicken, pulled pork, shrimp, and all kinds of things get thrown on the grill, but to be considered an expert you better know how to make brisket. There is one delicious exception to this rule, and that is barbacoa, which is frequently made with beef cheek.

The Key

You may get inspired to try to barbeque yourself (barbequing and grilling are two different things) so I have a little expert tip for you; low and slow. The real barbeque experts are actually up all night starting thier briskets so that by suppertime the meat is incredibly tender, but still juicy.

The Assignment

I just asked for folks to "Show Us Your 'Q". Among the pics are some stunning briskets, full arrays of meats, and yes, even some joke pictures. Page through and see what real Texans had on their grills this past weekend.
