New Law Enforcement System in Texas May Ticket Speeders Without Pulling Them Over
If you've got a lead foot, it's time to slow down. A new law enforcement system is being implemented in some Texas counties that could result in a ticket for speeders without them ever having been pulled over.
Bexar County deputies just began using Scanning LIDAR on some roadways as a way to encourage drivers to slow down and follow the speed limit. The system has a series of cameras equipped with infrared lights and is said to be able to scan 5 lanes of traffic at a time.
When someone exceeds the speed limit, the system takes a photo of the driver and the license plate.

As of now, drivers in Bexar County who speed past the Scanning LIDAR system are only being issued warnings, but there are plans to send tickets in the mail in the future.
Back in 2019, red-light cameras were outlawed in Texas, and it's possible that this new speeder deterrent could prove problematic as well.

I think people definitely need to slow down, but I'm not sure how I feel about getting a ticket without actually being pulled over. It seems kind of sneaky. What do you think?
