New Retail Strategy Makes Lubbock An Ideal Candidate For a Macy’s
If you think this article is a ploy to get Macy's to notice Lubbock- you are at least partially correct. I'd love to have a Macy's here in Lubbock. And with their newly announced marketing strategy, I believe we are a great candidate for a Macy's.
"But Department stores are dying!" Some are, for sure. Lubbock has lost Sears, Bealls, and K-Mart in the last several years. So why would a Macy's work when those didn't?
Because Macy's is making the move to small format stores which, "are between 30,000 and 50,000 square-foot in size and are found in 'off-mall' locations." How lovely to have a mini-Macy's in a shopping center like Canyon West or the West End here in Lubbock.
Why does a Macy's matter when we have Kohl's, Dillard's, etc? Well, like me, you probably enjoy having options. If the price is high at one place, a store is very busy, or maybe I just don't jive with the selection, it's nice to have another option. Macy's carries a wide range of quality brands and even if they are not in a mini-Macy's- I'd still be easily able to make a return of an online purchase there. That's why I don't just shop online Macy's- I don't want the hassle of returning via mail if something doesn't fit.
Lubbock is growing, but we are still "suburban" at heart. And while I do not think we are ready to support another huge department store, I think a new mini-Macy's would be an excellent fit in one of our great shopping centers.
Now I just need to find an excuse to get Nordstrom Rack's attention.
