A Deep, Dark Hole

Southwest of Austin, Texas, in Wimberly there is a place called, "Jacob's Well". You can swim there, but don't go to deep. The hole goes about 140 feet deep with at least two 5,000-foot caverns and various passageways. This type of structure makes it a natural for underwater explorers, and some have died in pursuit of the formation's secrets.

Formation

Jacob's Well was formed by the groundwater washing away the limestone.  The hole/cave system stays at a constant 68 degrees making for a great swim. Interestingly enough, even though the hole is so deep and opens into the caves and passageways, the opening is only about 12 feet across. The location is on an 82-acre preserve and allows visitors from May to October. To go, you must make reservations, but you can get details on that here.

Location

The site where Jacob's Well is located is extremely picturesque. As for the hole itself, let's just say it's a bit spooky and gives me the creeps. I'm not saying there are lake monsters out there, but if there are, this would be a good place for them to sneak up on you and drag you down (or at least nibble on your toes). The areas around the actual hole look fun, but I just don't think I'd get close to what looks like God's drainpipe to me.
