I am deeply proud of my darling friends at Plain Jane's- not only are they just wonderful people, but they have also worked incredibly hard to get where they are today. They've successfully operated a food truck and now are on to even bigger and better endeavors.

Where are they "today"? In a darling storefront at 3407 98th, Suite 600. They soft-opened Thursday night, and will probably have unfixed hours for just a bit while they get everything settled. I recommend following them on Facebook to keep up with their hours in the interim.

Plain Jane's offers the best dang fried pies you'll ever eat in your life. The dough is the perfect flaky thickness, and the filling is generous and rich. I grabbed a peach and a strawberry cream Thursday night and they were still warm! The peach was on point but I think my eyes actually crossed when I bit into the strawberry cream. So delicious. Flavors on the pies tend to rotate so there are always exciting flavors to try.

Not feeling sweet? Plain Jane's also offers savory pies which make a yummy, handy and hearty meal.

In addition to the must-try fried pies, Plain Jane's offers ooey-gooey and quite large cinnamon rolls, brownies, cookies, dessert breads, cupcakes, and puddings. Again, flavors and availability are in flux so if you really want a particular item, I recommend placing an order for it call (806) 317-0211 or hit them on email at plainjanes2021@gmail.com.

I first had Plain Jane's out at Nightmare on 19th Street, so I'll always associate their yummy treats with my favorite season, my favorite weather, and my favorite people. Congrats Plain Jane's! We love you!

June 18 was National Wanna Get Away Day, and it got us to thinking of where Texans can get away from it all this summer and have a great time without breaking the bank.
