Preachers of Hell County Return to Lubbock With Crowbar
I have long worshipped at the altar of The Reverend Horton Heat. Little did I realize there was something just a bit like that originally from these parts.
The band is Preachers of Hell County, and band leader C.V. Wood is hot out of Plainview (in Hale County), even though he's made Austin his home since 1990.
Now, I don't want to cast a shadow over the band's unique sound by comparing them to The Rev; it might be better to just say that fans of The Rev will love this band, too.
The tracks I've heard from The Preachers of Hell County tend to gravitate a bit more in the smoky blues, and sometimes even classic country picking styles, than The Rev's rockabilly core. This is what I'd expect to hear in a smoky roadhouse at a secluded location at 1 a.m.
Interestingly enough, the band will be playing with groove metal act Crowbar on March 14th at Jake's Backroom. It should be a feast for the ears, and a hot, sweaty night of amazing music. Let's go give this Plainview boy a big welcome home.
