Queensryche Brings The Old School And Classic Albums Back to Jake’s
So there I was, in the middle of the night, at FMX....
Nights
Somewhere around 1983 I was working the 10p-2a shift at FMX. Part of my job was to host "The FMX Midnight Metal Shop". This was done in a very interesting and unusual way. I was just given a stack of any album that came in that looked like heavy metal and I was to play four songs from one, then four songs from another, then listeners would vote on which album would make it to the next night where everything would start over. I was able to "discover" a lot of bands this way. In fact, I played a lot of bands before they got signed to major labels, including Twisted Sister and Queensryche.
I don't have to tell you what made Twisted Sister stick out, but the Queensryche was really something different at the time. There was some kind of edge to that first e.p. that allowed it to stick out from the other metal acts happening at that time. I'd say it was most likely the razor-sharp riffing and the incredibly high parts in the actual song "Queen Of The Ryche". The airplay resulted in numerous visits to the Lubbock Coliseum and I can still remember the drummers set up included stands made of welded gold chains.
You have a chance to relive your Queensryche memories on November 9th when this hit Jake's. This is a special tour in that they'll be playing that first e.p. and the following album, "The Warning" in their entirety (and presumably spiking in a few hits at the end). Tickets go on sale this Friday online and at Ralph's. You can also go ahead and get entered for a FMX Four On The Floor pack right now.
