Texas Tech students are heading back to Lubbock to begin classes in what might be the weirdest fall semester in the history of the school.

The coronavirus pandemic will put college students who are historically poor in an even worse position, with fewer options for jobs. The most popular jobs for college students, like bars, restaurants and retail stores, are all struggling with the restrictions put in place over the last several months.

With that, the food insecurity among college students will be at an all-time high. That's why Raider Red's Food Pantry is asking for donations to help students this school year.

If you aren't familiar with Raider Red's Food Pantry, they're an on-campus food pantry focused on students. Their mission statement reads: "Raider Red's Food Pantry will provide students with short-term access to supplemental food. We will also connect students with resources on and off campus in an effort to support student well-being."

The food pantry has asked for help from the community on Facebook by saying: "Join Raider Red’s Food Pantry all August long for our Virtual Back to School Food Drive! Donate using our Amazon Wish List or through our monetary fund. All items sent from our wish list will be delivered directly to us. Your generous support will help us fight food insecurity this fall!"

You can donate all month long by buying food on Amazon through the Raider Red's Food Pantry page (the food goes directly to them) or by giving money online straight to the university. You can also donate food to Raider Red's Food Pantry by emailing foodpantry@ttu.edu to set up a time to drop off non-perishable items.

The pantry is asking for non-perishable items, such as rice, peanut butter and ramen. If you're a student and want to use the school's food pantry, it's located in Doak Hall in Room 117.
