What are the chances that not one, but three bands break up in your town?

Honorable Mention

Let's start with an honorable mention. People backstage gathered at a show featuring surviving members of The Monkees in Lubbock were absolutely horrified when the very diminutive Davey Jones got into an all-out brawl with his manager. I guess there was some "Monkey Business" going on between the two that we didn't know about.

Rossington-Collins Band

The Rossington-Collins Band was built out of some of the survivors from Lynyrd Skynrd. They managed to have some minor radio hits and were also known for playing an instrumental version of Freebird that was well worth the price of a ticket alone. All of that came to a stop in 1982. Reports say the band played a few songs, went backstage, and the lights came on leaving people wondering what the heck just happened.

Bon Jovi

To many of us, Bon Jovi is Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora. Even though he hasn't been in the band in forever, people still think they're going to see Richie when they go to see Bon Jovi because he was on all the posters when they were kids. So did Bon Jovi break up in Lubbock? Well, it was the last show Sambora played with the band even though his resignation/absence was announced until later.

Coal Chamber

My love for Coal Chamber is immense. I actually saw Slipknot open for Coal Chamber in Lubbock and I don't even remember paying attention during Slipknot. "Mi Loco", "Big Truck" and later "Fiend" were the type of tunes that turned me into a madman. On one of their return visits to the Hub City Dez and Meegs started beating the hell out of each other backstage. The situation was calmed down enough for the show to continue but they had to be escorted to the stage separately (one escort was a KFMX d.j.). At some point during the show, Meegs hit Dez in the head with part of his guitar leading Dez to say "This is the last Coal Chamber show ever!".  The band did manage to do a few more dates, but the wheels came off the Big Truck in Lubbock, Texas.
