Significantly Fewer Accidents Reported in Lubbock on Thursday Morning

Despite some overnight snow, significantly fewer accidents were reported in Lubbock by Lubbock Police after Thursday's morning commute.

Between the hours of midnight to noon, on Thursday, February 11th, just 14 accidents were reported. Three of the accidents had injuries reported, and one was a hit-and-run.

One thing that most likely contributed to the fewer accidents on Thursday was that a number of school districts, businesses, and government agencies had delayed starts to their day.

Friday's commute in Lubbock is expected to be better, since there's no overnight snow or sleet expected. However, as you can seen below from Ron Roberts' latest 7-day forecast, snow and extremely low temperatures will affect driving on this coming Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday morning.

AAA Texas reminds those having to drive this weekend to:

• Make sure your headlights are on. In fact, it is a good idea to turn on your headlights any time you drive, because you will increase your visibility in any conditions.
• Reduce your speed and leave plenty of room to stop. You should allow at least three times more space than usual between you and the vehicle in front of you.
• Brake gently to avoid skidding.
• Do not use cruise control on any wet, snow-covered or icy roads.
• Be aware of possible icy roads. Be especially careful on bridges and overpasses, which freeze sooner than roads. And even at temperatures above freezing, if conditions are wet, you might encounter ice in shady areas or on exposed roadways like bridges.
• Be careful on infrequently traveled roads, which may not be cleared as often as other roads.
