I find this very, very interesting.
The Past
A while back my partner and I interviewed a Texas Monthly writer on his book. "The Prophets Of Smoked Meat". The book came out in 2013 and despite being a rather thick volume, Lubbock didn't seem to register. We spoke to Daniel Vaughn about the omission and were told that he just didn't find anything around her that exciting (I'm going to admit that I only asked and didn't comb through all 372 pages for name drops). We were kind of stunned, but we moved on with our lives.
The Scene Is On Fire
These days, folks around here drop a lot of names when it comes to GREAT barbeque. I know of four places right now off the top of my head that I feel like could compete with any barbeque place in Texas. So are we about to finally get our props? Will a Lubbock business finally be recognized as a "MUST STOP" barbeque place in Texas. Well, I have it on good authority that at least one has had a follow up interview with Texas Monthly and might have possibly made the list.
It's Good For Lubbock
I feel like this somehow brings things full circle for barbeque in the Hub City. We have a chance at going from being overlooked, to being one of the tops, and we certainly have our fingers crossed for the business that is currently on the magazines radar. And while we hope it's our friends that make the list, having any Lubbock barbeque restaurant on the list is way overdue.
