Someone Dropped Nostalgic Lubbock Gold Into Coffee Shop Tip Jar
A 21-year-old Starbucks employee in Lubbock, Texas came across a strange gold coin that she'd never seen before. The strange coin was from long before her time and is now considered a relic from the past around these parts, but when I was a kid, it was HIGHLY prized.
Can you guess what kind of coin she found?
An older coworker explained to her that she had found a Putt-Putt Golf and Games arcade token. Nostalgic Lubbock gold.
If you aren't familiar with Putt-Putt, you are either new to town or very young like the woman who found the coin. The rest of us spent our childhood playing mini-golf, riding go-karts, smacking balls in the batting cages, and setting new records in the arcade. The beloved Lubbock hangout sadly closed down in 2010.
I actually grew up with the owner's son and spent a ton of time there playing games and running around after hours. My brother and I pretty much lived there during the summertime. I even remember when they got their first Dance Dance Revolution machine. It was awesome. Shout out to Jace Evans and his folks for allowing us to hang out there so much. You guys were probably sick of us, but we still cherish those memories. Thanks for making our childhood so special.
If you're from Lubbock, chances are you've got a couple of Putt-Putt coins around your home. I've been hanging on to a few of those, as well as a few old wooden nickels from St. Clair & Massey Orthodontics. Finding one of those 2 coins lying around when I was 10 years old was like finding treasure.
