United Supermarkets continues to prove why it’s one of the strongest community partners in West Texas — and it’s even better when they bring friends who show up big when it matters.

This has been a tough year for many families in Lubbock and the area. I personally know people who were hovering at the poverty line who have now slipped below it, forcing them to seek help from the South Plains Food Bank for the very first time. Thankfully, the Food Bank has stepped up to meet the moment, and part of that success comes from a record-setting year of donations.

Smart Chicken Steps Up With More Than Two Tons of Protein

Smart Chicken committed to donating one pound of chicken for every ten pounds purchased. It’s a simple formula that turned into a massive blessing: 4,120 pounds of chicken delivered straight to the South Plains Food Bank. Protein donations like this are incredibly valuable because they’re far less common than canned goods or dry staples, and they help families create real, filling meals. This isn’t a one-off act of generosity either — Smart Chicken has donated tens of thousands of pounds over the years, making them a consistent bright spot in regional hunger relief efforts.

Meanwhile, the South Plains Food Bank continues to operate at an astonishing scale. Their annual counter has now passed three million pounds of food distributed, serving more than 50,000 households across the region. When you look at those numbers, it’s clear their work isn’t just helpful — it’s essential. This organization feeds families, fills gaps, and restores hope, and they remain more than deserving of every ounce of community support we can offer.
