Monday, Texas Tech left-handed pitcher Steven Gingery made his decision on whether or not he would be returning to the Red Raider ball club next season.

As Texas Tech fans waited with bated breath as to what the decision would be, Gingery took to Twitter to announce that he would not be returning to the Red Raiders for the 2019 season. You can read his full note below.

Gingery's 2018 season was cut very short after only a few innings into his first start of the season. After leaving the game with an elbow injury, Gingery would then require Tommy John surgery, ending his season.

But even after having the surgery, Gingery was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals with the 123rd pick in the fourth round of the 2018 MLB Draft.

2017 was the year of Gingery. At the time, he was a sophomore for the Red Raiders and was absolutely dominant.

He finished with a 10-1 record and a 1.58 ERA in the regular season. Gingery also won the Big 12 Pitcher of the Year, was named a Big 12 All-Conference, was a first-team NCAA All-American, and took home the NCAA Pitcher of the Year.

Gingery is the 5th Red Raider to announce that they will not be returning to the team in 2019, joining Ryan Shetter, Grant Little, Dylan Dusek and Michael Davis.

While I'm disappointed some Red Raiders are not returning for another season, I'm also ecstatic to see these guys continue their dream at the next level.

UPDATE:

Gingery has signed for $825,000 which is almost double what his estimated signing bonus would be based on his slot in the draft.
