Taco’s And Tequila Cancelled, Here’s What You Can Learn From It
I'll start by staying that I don't know everything, and I know a lot more than I'm saying here.
The Start
FMX was never involved with Taco's & Tequila. You can track this on thier own Facebook page. They initially put our logo on their event and we had it taken down. Some bands continued to pass it along, but we had it scrubbed. We gave away tickets, and they paid us to take our truck to the first event, but that's it. After having two moderately successful years we attempted a business relationship with them, but it fell apart completely after none of the obligations and guarantees to us were met.
Responsibility
Some people might say, "then why did you let them advertise?". Well, that's our business. We are no more responsibly for this kind of thing than if you a fast food place that advertises forgets your fries. We have many, and I mean many, clients that we would 100% stand behind, do or die, but this was not one of them. It was a frustrating position to be in for sure.
The Thing To Remember
Here's what you should learn from this (and a few people figured it out). You never heard anything saying "FMX Welcomes..." and after that initial blast mentioned above, you never saw us on their graphics. We have been doing this concert thing for 44 years, so we stayed an arms length with this one, constantly hoping for the best.
Being Petty
Lastly, I think, and most listeners agree, that it was a "cheap shot" to try to call out the Amphitheatre on their way out of the door. The Amp has seen better days, but there are people making small repairs, watering, and doing what's fiscally proper nearly every day (I'm out there in the back every day, so I see them). I will also say that the T&T people blocked and/or Shanghaied a number of shows that would have given the Amp a better revenue flow to keep things up. In short, the Amp still has more than a few shows left in her.
Credit Where Due
And finally, thanks to Everything Lubbock for blowing the lid off of this. I have one question though, why is it going to take until February 10th for refunds? As someone who uses a ticketing agency, I could flip one little toggle right now and reverse charges. I find this two week window, after everything people have been through, very suspect.
...oh, and there's much more. Maybe I'll write about it someday.
