Texans Can See A Rare Super Blue Moon Tonight
It's not to late to catch a glimpse of a bold, beautiful, and blue moon tonight.
Texas Sky
The song says, "The starts at night are big and bright, deep in the heart of Texas". Tonight the moon will join in on the fun. While the stars can be hard to see due to light pollution, a big, beautiful full moon is usually always visible (barring cloud cover). Some of were able to get a little preview early Monday morning and it's pretty spectacular.
Blue Moon
The lore behind the name "Blue Moon" is rather long and confusing, but suffice it to say that the "Blue" isn't referring to the color, but the phenomenon it's associated with. In short the term "Blue Moon" refers to the second full moon in a month, and sometimes the third full moon in a season that has four. Yes, it's a bit confusing.
Super Moon
In addition to a "Blue Moon" it's also a "Super Moon" which means it's larger and brighter than usual. The shortest explanation is that the moon is a little closer to earth., There is, again, a much longer explanation to this, but you get the idea.
The Next One
If we're using the "two moons/one month formula" then you're in for a long wait until the next one happens. We will not have another occurrence until May31st 2025. That's a long ways away, so you might want to take the time to enjoy this lunar event.
