Shocking: Texas Assisted Living Home Owner Charged With Murder Of Client

A Texas woman has been arrested for murder after one of her assisted living clients died from "mixed drug toxicity." None of the toxic drugs found in victim Steven Pankratz's body were prescribed to him.

The drugs that were ruled to have caused Pankratz's death include Trazodone and Mirtazapine, both anti-depressant drugs that can cause drowsiness, and Tramadol, a narcotic pain reliever.

Regla “Su” Becquer owns several unlicensed care centers across Arlington, Mansfield, and Grand Prairie in North Texas.

Becquer was charged with murder after Pankratz's death was ruled a homicide. She was previously held on a charge of endangerment.

Because of the findings in Pankratz's autopsy, investigators are looking into another 20+ deaths that occurred in assisted living facilities owned by Becquer. Of particular interest is the death of Karen Walker, who left Becquer her house in a handwritten will.

Legal trouble began for Bacquer when a neighbor called the police after discovering an elderly patient in his backyard. The patient requested the neighbor call 911, as he was trying to escape the group home.

Arlington Police Lt. Kimberly Harris hasn't held back her feelings in this case, saying she is angry that a wheelchair-bound man was forced to crawl around the group home, developing scars.

Arlington police crisis intervention specialist Kelly Land described the conditions in the homes as "heartbreaking" and "horrific." Families of residents have accused Becquer of abuse, neglect, and fraud against their loved ones.

According to Texas Health and Human Services, all assisted living facilities must be licensed; however, Becquer operated five facilities without one.
