Most of us get a craving now and then for a big, juicy hamburger. But have you ever seen one so massive you couldn’t finish it? Well, get ready—because some Texas burgers are simply unreal.

The Burger That Started It All (RIP)

The quest for the biggest burger in Texas actually starts on a bittersweet note. For a long time, the title belonged to Arnold’s in Amarillo, home of a legendary 24-inch burger designed to feed twenty people. Sadly, Arnold’s has closed its doors. A true heavyweight has left the ring.

The Current Champ: Salsa Joe’s “El Gordito”

Taking the crown now is the monstrous 20-pound “El Gordito” served at Salsa Joe’s in Arlington. That’s the equivalent of eating 80 quarter-pounders in one sitting. Let that sink in.

Honorable Mentions: Big Lou’s and The Patriotic Pig

Coming in third (but still ridiculous) was a 12-pound burger from Big Lou’s Barbecue and Burger in San Antonio. Big Lou himself might’ve thrown out his back flipping these monsters. Big Lou's transitioned to Big Lou's Pizza, and Big Lou may or may not be out of business at this point.

Texas-Sized Burgers That’ll Wreck Your Cheat Day

Then there's something a little more reasonable—sort of. The Patriotic Pig in North Richland Hills serves a 2.5-pound burger, which is still a beast, but you might actually finish it without backup.

Build Your Own Burger Tower

If you’re not up for a road trip, fear not. Plenty of local burger joints are happy to stack 'em high. Even the big chains are in on it:

  • Wendy’s lets you customize with extra patties.

  • Whataburger? Add up to eight patties in the app—and probably more in person if you’re brave enough.

Deadly Texas: The Lone Star State's Most Dangerous Insects & Arachnids

Encounters with Texas insects can be magical (think flights of Monarch butterflies!), but mostly they tend to be neutral or negative. Should you really worry about creepy crawlies in Texas? These are the insects and arachnids you probably should be aware of, as they all could prove potentially fatal (although that outcome is very rare).
