Why do good people do bad things? Or are they good people at all?
God Says No
The ninth of the Ten Commandments is, "You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor". I'm not a biblical scholar but I have decent reading comprehension and that's just another way of saying, "Don't lie". So what about "stretching the truth"? Well, that's just the light beer of lying.
The Church
Lakepointe Church here in Texas apparently doesn't like paying for people to direct traffic to and from their megachurch . They've been trying to get the city to install a traffic light so it can take care of the heavy lifting. Part of that process is an engineering survey to see how much traffic drives by that area. This is all pretty cut and dried, right?
The Sin
Well, the church was actually caught signing people up to drive by that spot ten times a day to influence the numbers. Of course they are blaming it all on one member and saying the higher ups in the church had no idea this was going on. Yeah, right. I see what you're selling, but I'm not buying it.
The Cost
This church has 20,000 members. I think they can afford off duty police to direct traffic to and from their service. This seems to be a very poorly executed attempt to stack their odds in their favor and I hope the city rejects their requests for the light until sometime in the future.
What Is Going On?
To close, is it just me or does it seem like the bigger a church gets the more inclined they are to have something rotten going on? I know many people who have left organized religion in favor of personal spiritualty and its because of incidents just like this. You just can't reconcile a church who's willing to break one of the Ten Commandments just to save a few bucks.
