Texas Police Need Your Helping Finding Driver Who Hit & Killed Young Girl
Dallas, Texas police are on the hunt for a driver who allegedly struck and killed a young girl this past Sunday night (2/16/2025).
According to CBS News, the driver of "a white, newer model Acura MDX" struck the child then drove away from the scene around 10:25 p.m., "in the 5900 block of Belt Line Road."
Police have surveillance footage of the child running from an apartment complex into the street. She wove between cars as some slowed to take notice.
Sadly one car didn't notice- and didn't stop to help.
Instead, police say the driver pulled into a nearby parking lot before fleeing westbound on Belt Line Road.
One witness turned around thinking it might have been "a baby" that was hit, sadly, their suspicions were confirmed and they called 9-1-1.
Currently, Dallas police have no leads but are hoping the public will come forward to help.
Police ask that if anyone has information that could help identify the vehicle and driver, contact Det. K. Land by emailing kyle.land@dallaspolice.gov or calling (214) 671-0014.
As you can see in the video below, the street is extremely busy and the child did run directly into oncoming traffic.
The footage is not gorey but still may be distressing to some viewers:
It is not clear if the child was with an adult before they ran into the street.
Are Pedestrians Ever "At Fault" In Texas?
In Texas, a pedestrian can be found "at fault" for an accident, however, there is quite a bit of nuance when determining who is responsible- both criminally and in any potential civil case.
Of course, fleeing the scene and failing to stop and render aid is always a crime. And whether or not the driver would have been "at fault" does not diminish the absolute tragedy of this child's loss.
