Texas Tech Throws Down The Gauntlet To University Of Texas
Hold onto your socks, because there's a truth bomb about to hit.
Let's start with the fact that Texas Tech pulled an absolutely savage move. After a perceived slam over having an easy schedule by Texas, Tech stepped up and basically said, "Okay, play us."
Not only did they say "play us," they also offered up the cash to buy out the contracts of the teams both schools were supposed to play. Like I said, this is awesome sauce over a plate of epic noodles.
Let's be clear: Texas Tech won the day.
They grabbed U.T. by the Longhorns and rubbed their noses in the cow patties. A victory was had, but we're probably not going to win the war.
I know you want to think they're "scared" of playing us, but I actually believe they think they are "above us." In my opinion, they see us as their uncouth hillbilly cousins from the west that they don't like to talk about.
So let's dissect that.
We've always been competitive with U.T., but things were blown wide open when they hired away our basketball coach. Then Tech fans made it much, much worse by surrounding the U.T. bus when it came to Lubbock.
I believe, rightfully or wrongfully, that bit of intimidation poisoned the well between us for the foreseeable future.
So what will come of Texas Tech's challenge?
Probably nothing.
We won on the internet. There's no shortage of influencers calling Tech's move savage, and Red Raiders everywhere got to enjoy the moment. But that probably won't mean a thing in Austin.
Texas Tech made a statement. Texas Tech got people talking. Texas Tech showed they were willing to back it up.
But the Longhorns don't have to respond, and I don't think they will.

Texas Tech is on the Longhorns' blacklist, and it's probably going to be a long time before that changes.
