Texas Tech Fans Are Dreaming of a Once-in-a-Lifetime Playoff Path
A lot of things would have to fall into place, but Texas Tech fans are starting to see a possible — and downright thrilling — path to the College Football Playoff.
Texas Tech Football is experiencing new highs lately, sitting at #8 in the national rankings after a dominant stretch under head coach Joey McGuire. The team has earned every bit of its position, and many analysts believe the Red Raiders have a good shot to win their final two regular-season games against UCF and West Virginia. Nothing is ever guaranteed — as Arizona State proved earlier this year — but optimism is running wild across Raiderland.
The Dream Scenario For Texas Tech Football
The fun part is imagining how this could all play out. Some experts have pointed out that the postseason picture could line up in a way that sees Texas Tech taking on Texas, with the winner moving on to face Texas A&M. That would bring three old Southwest Conference schools — which parted ways back in 1996 — together again in a high-stakes showdown for football supremacy.
And oh, there are scores to settle. Many Red Raider fans still haven’t forgiven Texas A&M for bolting to the SEC or Texas for following suit years later. It doesn’t help that Texas once lured away Tech’s beloved basketball coach, leaving a lasting “we’ll take whatever we want” kind of bitterness. Sure, the Longhorns eventually fired him, but that didn’t erase the sting.
Adding more fuel to the fire, some early playoff predictions even have Texas Tech hosting Texas in Lubbock, which would bring an entirely new level of chaos — and energy — to West Texas.
