Texas Tech Footballs Biggest Mistake-Losing Kingsbury Connection
The former Texas Tech head football coach is in line to interview for that position with the Chicago Bears.
The Big Mistake
Many people think that cutting ties with Football Coach Mike Leach was the worst thing that Texas Tech Football has ever done. I feel like these people are looking into a rose-colored rearview mirror. Things had already got a little too contentious with Leach, and even if you don't remember, he started to get a little too big for his britches. The way I remember it, he was still talking the talk, but not walking the walk when it came to on-field performances.
The Pirates Curse
Around Lubbock, people talk of "the Pirates Curse" because of the way things ended with Mike Leach. Meanwhile, Texas Tech cut ties with Kliff Kingsbury and I truly believe we'd be murdering the Big 12, and the portal, if we still had Kingsbury around. Kingsbury had/has swagger that no other coach has, and with a little donor help, he could of ruled the league in the era of N.I.L. Putting his stint at the top in Lubbock aside, why did we forget about Kliff?
Kliff On The Rise
I'd rather not get stuck in the weeds discussing Kingsbury's resume, but he's expected to interview for the head coach position with the Chicago Bears. Kliff is a thing in the NFL. He is without a doubt, a hot property. The problem is, that no one seems to have continued to keep his relationship with Texas Tech alive. I'm sure that's a hard thing to do when you let someone go, but you'd think someone would be smart enough to bring Kingsbury back into the fold, at least by celebrating his days as a player, if not as a coach.
Two Is Better Than One
We've seen what the Patrick Mahomes connection has done for Texas Tech. The level of notoriety we'd have if Kingsbury were also shouting out the school would be insane. I understand that the forces that be had to let him go, but they shouldn't have lost his phone number.
