The $95 Million Controversy: Did the Texas Lottery Get Rigged?
AUSTIN, Texas - The Texas Lottery is at the center of a massive and long-running fraudulent scheme with Lottery.com executives and things don't look good. State lawmakers grilled the folks in charge of the Texas Lottery Commission in a Senate Finance Committee hearing the other day, where they made accusations of money laundering and pointed the finger at former Texas Lottery Commissioner Gary Grief.
A new lawsuit claims a criminal conspiracy began in 2017 when Grief went to California to lobby the founders of Lottery.com to move their business location to Austin. Things have been suspicious from that moment until Greif's early retirement in 2024.
The lawsuit centers around the $95 million Lotto Texas jackpot drawing in April 2023. The Houston Chronicle investigated the drawing and determined a wealthy group of investors played the system and stacked the odds. They purchased tickets in bulk for almost every possible number combination.
Grief and the executives of Lottery.com are accused of manipulating the system to ensure a win, which resulted in a massive payout for Rook TX, the company that claimed the $57.5 million jackpot payout.
That's not all, either. The lawsuit claims several big-time no-nos went down behind the scenes. The founder of Lottery.com, Ryan Dickerson, also had 142 winning lottery tickets over three years, two of which were back-to-back $50,000 Powerball wins.
This article barely scratches the surface of the claims made at the recent hearing. Click here to find more information on the Texas Lottery scandal. It's quite a doozy...
