David Glessner, the information officer for the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT), joined Lubbock's First News Tuesday to discuss child safety seat awareness week.

September 13-19 marks Texas' child safety seat awareness week.

"First and foremost it's all about saving lives," said Glessner. "It's always a tragedy when we lose anyone on a Texas roadway, but it's especially heartbreaking when we find out that a child has been injured or killed because he or she was not properly restrained in a child safety seat."

This week drivers and caregivers can schedule a free safety seat inspection at their local TXDOT office to make sure that their child safety seat is properly installed.

Lubbock's TXDOT office is located at 135 E Slaton Highway and the phone number for that office is (806) 748-4478. People can also text the word 'seat' and their zip code to 876526 and they'll receive a message telling them how to get to their closest TXDOT offfice.
