Think Big, Shop Small: Celebrate Pink Friday Across Texas!
Now here's an idea that we can all get behind.
Where We Started
I never understood, "Small Business Saturday". Yes, I get the concept of shopping our local neighborhood retailers, what I didn't get is why we put those businesses second? There's always a chance that you are "spent out", or some other combination of broke and tired before you make your way to your favorite local business. Putting the emphasis on the day after Black Friday just shows that some priorities are out of whack.
Where We're At
Now there is a push for "Pink Friday". A page/movement promoted by "The Boutique Hub" has launched this effort along with the hashtag #supportsmallfirst. We need to push this like crazy, it just makes too much sense to shop locally first, then fill in at other places. Our local businesses should never, not ever coming in second to national retailers.
A Local Start
The "Pink Friday" push in Lubbock is being championed by our friends at The Matador. They are taking this seriously, even offering pink treats and special pink deals at their South store location on 103rd and Quaker. I'm going to have to ahead and applaud any business that supports others, even their competition. I would also remind you that Texas Tech has a game this weekend and your favorite Tech fan might enjoy something from The Matador as an early Christmas Gift.
Why Not Both?
Hopefully you are in the mood to get your shopping started tomorrow (11/21). If for some reason you're not ready, maybe you could at least earmark a few doors for Small Business Saturday next week, and be a little more prepared next year.
