Must See: This Weekend’s Texas Tech Game Has A Hilarious Nickname
I guess I'm behind the curve on all of these things.
The One That Got Away
Maybe if I was a bigger Texas Tech fan, I'd be quicker on the uptake on these. I'm still stinging from the fact that I never picked up on the nickname from the Baylor University/Texas Tech game, which took on the name "ButtBowl" because of the initial B.U. & T.T. C'mon, I know it's juvenile and more than a little silly, but it's pretty hilarious. I'm not sure how long this name has been been going around, but as a purveyor of Dad Jokes and bad puns, you'd think I would have been at the forefront of this movement.
This Weeks Game
So what's up with this weeks West Virgina/Texas Tech game? Well, W.V. & T.T. certainly don't spell anything. The answer is even simpler than that. Some are referring to it as "The John Denver Bowl. At this point, let do some explaining. Of course one of John Denver's biggest songs was "Country Roads" which sang the praises of West Virginia. Okay, so that University is checked off the list. So what about Texas Tech? if you didn't know, John Denver actually attended Texas Tech from 1961 to 1964.
The Next Big Thing
Now let's go one better. why aren't we calling the Texas Tech/University Of North Texas games "The Meatloaf Bowl". Acclaimed rocker "Meatloaf" attended both colleges. This could be the game where you could do anything for love at halftime (except for that one thing). I think the Meatloaf Bowl needs to be a whole new thing for Texas Tech!
