Brandon Prucey and his family moved to Lubbock after Hurricane Harvey dumped several feet of rain in Houston. Now, months after starting a new life in Lubbock, they're facing thousands of dollars in repair costs after a vehicle crashed through their backyard fence and through the back wall of their home.

The accident happened Saturday afternoon (April 7) around 4:30 p.m. Richard Prucey was inside when he heard a loud crash.

A driver had jumped the curb and careened into a storage room at the back of the house, completely taking out a wall and damaging bikes and other possessions. No one was inside the storage or in the back yard when the crash occurred. "Thank God no one did get hurt," Richard said.

According to a crash report provided by Lubbock Police Department Public Information Officer Tiffany Pelt, the driver who crashed their vehicle into the home said they swerved to avoid hitting a dog. This caused the vehicle to hit the curb, drive through the fence and into the house.

The vehicle was towed from the scene of the crash, and the driver was issued citations for driving without a driver's license, driving without insurance and failure to maintain a single lane.

The family is still without electricity, relying on a generator for the time being. Richard says the cost to repair the damages could total between $10,000 and $20,000. Electric alone will cost around $3,000 to fix, he told us.

The family says it's currently talking with the insurance company to cover the cost of the damages. In the meantime, they've set up a GoFundMe page to help.
