Viral Television Moment Happened In Lubbock Nearly 25 Years Ago
Every once in a while a television show or movie pairs with a song so well, that it creates a viral moment for both.
The Bear
The show "The Bear" on FX/Hulu is the story of a chef who returns home to run his brothers restaurant. The chef tries to update the restaurant while dealing with the trauma of his brothers suicide and a staff that is having a hard time seeing things his way. The show just finished it's third season.
The Song
The song "Save It For Later" is featured multiple times in the show. There appears to be several different version used including the original by The English Beat and at least two variations by Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jim (one even close with him singing some of the words to the song "Better Man").
Lubbock
Eddie Vedder's love for the song Save It For Later has been on display for a long time. In 2000 when the band played Lubbock the song was used as a coda to the song "Better Man". The band did this many times, but it's kind of special that we were one of the locations that got to experience it. The performance was recorded live and I have it for you here:
Don't Forget Pete
I do think that Eddie Vedder's version is a tip of the hat to the original dialed back cover by The Who's Pete Townsend. As someone has loved this song since it's ska debut, I will say that both Pete and Eddie added unbelievable emotional depth and drama to the song, each perfecting it in their own way.
