Onlookers captured the horrifying moment a train barreling down the track struck a tractor-trailer, derailing it, and ultimately sending it crashing into the Chamber of Commerce building in Pecos, Texas.

The ordeal happened on Wednesday evening. You can see a line of traffic and the tractor-trailer parked on the tracks just beforehand and the man filming cries out for them to move off the tracks, but unfortunately, it was too late.

One person one killed in the derailment and 4 others were injured. The identity of the person killed in the accident has not yet been released.

Three of the train cars were carrying materials that would be considered potentially hazardous at the time of the accident, but sources say they were contained.

Of the four people injured, three were treated at Reevers Regional Health, and the fourth person, who reportedly had more serious injuries, was sent to a hospital in Odessa for more extensive treatment.

In the United States, there are approximately three train derailments per day. The majority of train derailments don't happen in public view, but instead "within the confines of rail yards." Train derailments are typically due to human error, such as the one that occurred yesterday in Pecos.
