In most places, $20 disappears quietly. Maybe a coffee, maybe lunch, maybe half a tank of gas if you’re lucky. It doesn't seem to go as far as it used to. That's for sure.

You could spend it on a full combo meal at your favorite spot. You might even have enough leftover for a milkshake that you don't need, but totally deserve. Or, you could blow the whole $20 on snacks from Stripes that you didn't plan on buying. Beef jerky has a way of robbing you.

$20 might also get you into a last-minute local show to catch a cool band. Maybe even a couple of cheap beers to go with it. You could spend a 20 dollar bill really fast at a movie theater, but I think you could still catch a flick. Might cost extra for snacks. They are pricey as hell.

Or, if you're feeling productive, you could spend 20 bucks on a car wash that lasts a couple of days before the next dust storm blows through.

But, the most West Texas way to spend $20?

Handing it over to a friend who needs it or maybe helping out the homeless person you see on your way to work every day. No expectation. Just a “you’re good, get something to eat.”

Out here, $20 doesn’t just buy things. Sometimes, it's better to take care of your people, and that’s about as West Texas as it gets.
