So yesterday a bunch of Lubbockites braved the heat to watch a bunch of cars covered in colored toilet paper drive slowly down the street. Uh, really? Are parades a remnant of our past or are they still important?

IT IS VERY important that our service members are honored in a public forum, but I just don't know about the rest. Who cares about TV anchors, or bankers or corporate sponsored cars? What about high school marching bands? I like the bands at football games, but it doesn't seem to have that fun feel to it at any other place. It's mildly amusing when there's  a lawnmower brigade or something, but ask yourself, what are they doing?  THEY'RE MAKING FUN OF PARADES.

Kids like parades because some sponsors throw candy. The kids then RUN INTO THE STREET and try to grab some. That doesn't seem to be the best lesson to me. Old people seem to like parades; I don't really know why. Maybe it's because it moves at the same speed that they drive. I'm still trying to figure at the appeal for anyone else.

It just seems to me that going to a parade seems kind of dumb when you break it down. It's too hot, too expensive, not really exciting and it leaves a big mess behind.

I took some time on the 4th to think of the sacrifices that were made so I can write crap like this. I always thank servicemen when I see them. I do what I can to publicize or help veteran's causes and I always will. Personally I don't need to see a flatbed trailer covered in streamers to remind me to be grateful that I'm an American.

So what's your thoughts? Do you or did you hit the parade? Have you had enough of it? I'd love to hear some other thoughts.
