Where Tradition Meets Innovation: Texas’ Largest Hat Maker Reigns Supreme!
Hat's are mandatory in Texas and some would say cowboy hats are essential.
Hats
Cowboy hats serve a number of purposes. For my bus driving Father In Law it was about having a sense of style while protecting his mostly bald head. Others need that brim to keep the sun out of their eyes and the back to keep the sun off thier neck. Hat's in general are one of those items of clothing that can actually keep you cooler. We should also mention that keeping that sun out of your face can lessen your chances of certain skin conditions.
The Winner
Garland, Texas is home to the biggest cowboy hat maker in Texas. That company is called Hatco. You may know Hatco better by the names of two of thier most famous brands, Resistol and Stetson. Hatco manufactures over a million cowboy hats each year. You've seen these hats on everyone from George Strait to Ronald Reagan and practically everyone in between. In case you're "not from around these parts", Garland is in Dallas county and has a population of around 250,000 people.
The Town
Having the largest hat company in Texas has resulted in Garland having at least more hat companies, partially due to the experience talent pool and resource base in town. Garland is certainly the cowboy hat capitol of Texas, if not the world. Now when it comes to ALL hats, Garland has to tip it's hat to the Young An Company out of South Korea which is responsible for 40% of all headwear in the market. As far as "Big In Texas Goes", the award for "Biggest Hat Maker" goes to Hatco/Resistol/Stetson.
