Why Isn’t Lubbock Happy? New Survey Reveals City’s Low Ranking
Lubbock, Texas is not doing well on the "Happy" scale.
Lubbock Sadness
I found the results of this latest Wallethub study very intriguing. I am surround by people who seem to be pretty happy. If they aren't happy, they certainly are putting on a good show and/or not complaining about the city. Yes, there's always room for improvement, but let's try to find out why Lubbock folks are apparently, secretly unhappy.
Know Your Source
Wallethub has the most in-depth surveys out there. You can not argue with the depth of the metrics used to come to these conclusions. I suppose you could possibly come up with different questions, but can not say that the ones they use aren't very well researched. So far, after dozens of dozens of Wallethub surveys, I've yet to see one that didn't get it "right".

The Metrics
The metrics for this survey were threefold; Emotional & Physical Well-Being, Income & Employment Rank, and Community & Environment Rank. Those three metrics were made of of smaller questions, for instance "Community & Environment" looked at multiple variables including the divorce rate and the amount of leisure time each day. Seven different variables were included in that one overall metric.
The Results
So let's cut to the chase. Out of 182 cities measured, Lubbock came in #155. We tanked both "Emotion & Physical Well-Being" and "Community & Environment". At least we hit #54 on Income & Employment or things would have been far worse. I guess, if we just look at this on a surface level, we may be overworking ourselves to the point of being unhappy (at least that's what I took away from it).
