Within a Day, Two Separate Gas Leaks Are Reported in Lubbock

Within the past 24 hours, two isolated incidents involving gas leaks required homes and businesses in Lubbock to be evacuated.

The first occurred late Thursday morning (March 17th) in South Lubbock.

The Lubbock Fire Department was made aware of a gas line that was hit by construction crews. Lubbock Fire Rescue responded to the gas leak at around 11:30 a.m. at 82nd Street and Vicksburg Avenue.

Due to the leak, residences in the area were evacuated. In addition, officers were diverting traffic on 82nd Street from Utica Avenue to Vinton Avenue. Vicksburg Avenue from 82nd Street to 84th Street was also closed.

Authorities lifted the closures just before 3:30 p.m. when people were allowed back in their homes.

The second incident happened early Friday morning (March 18th) in West Lubbock.

Lubbock Fire Rescue were called for reports of a gas leak after 1:15 a.m. near 20th Street and Rochester Avenue. EverythingLubbock reports the gas leak was caused after a regulator station belonging to Atmos Energy was hit.

Fire crews say the gas line was located in an alley and had a four-inch leak. What struck the gas line remains unknown.

A few homes nearby were evacuated until repairs could be done, which were completed at around 4:30 a.m.
