A Lubbock Bar Is Being Investigated After a Deadly Drunk Driving Accident
It was confirmed Tuesday by the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC), that Skooners Grill & Bar is being investigated in connection with a deadly drunk driving accident that took place on January 16th, 2021.
Thirty-year-old Gabriel Zerrata admitted to a Lubbock police officer that he had been drinking at Skooners before getting behind the wheel with Jessica Helmers, 19, for what would be her final car ride.
It isn't clear if Skooners will be held responsible for overserving Zerrata on that fateful night, and charges have yet to be filed. The TABC will be analyzing whether or not alcohol contributed to the tragic events and if the bar improperly sold alcoholic beverages that night.
Drinking and driving may seem like a good idea at the time, and that's likely because you're drunk and not in your right mind. You may feel overly confident or that you don't have very far to go. You may have driven drunk a million times and think you're some kind of pro. It only takes a split second to kill yourself, your friends, your family, or someone you don't even know.
Take steps before going out to the bar to secure a safe ride home. Your life is more important to your friends and family than you know, and there is always someone that will give you a ride home. Even if you're embarrassed to have to make that phone call to your parents or husband, they would much rather shame you for being a party monster than bury you too soon.
