Actor Lou Diamond Phillips, known for his roles in the movie 'La Bamba' and the TV show 'Longmire,' was arrested on a DWI charge in Portland, Texas early Friday morning.

According to police, an officer was conducting an unrelated traffic stop when Phillips, 55, drove up and asked for directions. The officer suspected Phillips had been drinking. A field test revealed that his blood-alcohol level was .20 -- more than twice the legal limit for driving, according to News Talk 1290.

Police Chief Mark Cory says Phillips was cooperative and arrested without incident.

Phillips, a 1980 graduate of Corpus Christi's Flour Bluff High School, was scheduled to be a guest speaker at a historical event in Corpus Christi Friday afternoon.
